Psalm 116: 12
What shall I return to the Lord for all his goodness to me?
13 I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord.
14 I will fulfill my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people.
1 CHRONICLES 16:34 (ESV)
Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever!
When I was elected Dean of the Western Cape Circuit It was on the 12 of May 2012.
The outcome of the Election was as follow: 20 Bock and12 Dinale.
What made this Appointment special is the fact that I had in mind to leave the Fulltime Ministry at 40 but again God in His Wisdom knew exactly how to knock me down with love. I served the full term of 6years with the help of God and people like Henry Petersen, Nicky Willemse, Charles Jansen, Thelo Wakefield, Pamela Heyns, Louis Herdien, Lanfred Fradie, Kalie van der Westhuizen, Denis Malgas, Gwen Florence.
In the next term, not much has changed. New members were Dennis Louw, Alfred Van Staden. Lucille van Zyl who acted as organizing Secretary. I had three Deputies namely, Pastor Muller, Pastor Darryl. Pastor Harwood.
Under these two Councils we did what was expected of us, we admit that a lot needs to be done, a lot needs to change, there’s enough room for improvement. To all the members I thank you and may God bless you. Now during these 12 years I had this Godgiven Previledge to work and serve alongside the following people. Please add on if I might miss someone.

We are called to follow someone – who was once received with Hosannas, and shortly after that the same people cried a loud Crucify Him, Crucify Him. But in all these things we are More Than Conquerors.

Rev. Newton Brandt
On October 12, 1961 a son was born to Elizabeth and Peter Paul Brandt. He was baptized and raised in a Christian environment in Mossel Bay and educated under the capable leadership of Mr Theys, Abrahams, Groenewald.
During his Confirmation, the kind and capable Pastor Henry Steneberg, made a permanent impact on his life. The same would throw a lifeline to him during Matric when he was out of options as the family was living off a disability grant.
He was afforded an opportunity to study thousands of kilometres away at Umpumulo Lutheran Theological College. This formation under the most capable, international lecturers, would set him up for opportunities unimaginable. Through his Hebrew studies, was afforded an opportunity to study in Jerusalem at the Swedish Theological Institute.
Two years after Bishop Fortuin ordained him on 20th October 1985 in Haarlem (with Wilfred Baxter), and servings the Mitchell’s Plain Congregation he was back in Israel and sat under the Rabbis and pursued studies in Modern Hebrew.
He returned to SA to serve Laingsburg Parish and in the process married Charmaine Aupress Smith, a teacher by profession, who bore two children for him Charlton and Devorah.
He furthered his studies and taught at Umpumulo and the University of KwaZulu-Natal. After 9 years in Natal the family served Heidedal parish in Bloemfontein at the guidance of Bishop Assur. He would also give guidance to the Free State Circuit as Dean.
After this venture, the family was afforded the privilege to serve Mossel Bay Parish. During the Covid-19 Pandemic his wife succumbed to Covid-19 on 21 August 2021. He relocated to Laingsburg to continue his wife’s dream to serve her hometown.
From here he is serving and teaching the Touwsrivier Parish and hope to facilitate a leadership succession process, re-energize the leagues and the completion of a building project. All to the honour of God alone.
God Bless

Induction Rev. Dr. Zahita in Grassy Park on 17th October 2021

I am Rev. Dr. Zaihita, originally from the Fiherenana Toliary Synod of the Malagasy Lutheran Church in Madagascar. I am the fourth child of my mother, Perline, but the first child of my father, Ravelo Pierre (at his age of 60); I have one younger brother and one baby sister (and 1 step-brother & 2 step sisters).
I was baptised at age of 7 and confirmed at age of 18. My mother has been a Christian since age of 10, but my father wasn’t (only converted to Christianity when I was in seminary in 1986), so was only able to attend church regularly at age of 17, when away from parents for schooling. Learning more about Christ during confirmation class (plus the last motivational message from our parish pastor the day before confirmation led me decide to become a pastor after I was confirmed.
I started Bible School (pre-Seminary) (1984-1986), then Seminary studies 1986-1991. I served Fanjakana Parish September 1991– August 1993, where I was ordained the on 13th September 1992. I returned to seminary for graduate studies from September 1993 and got my Honour’s degree in Systematic Theology in July 1995, and my Master’s degree in OT in July 1996. I was appointed to teach in the Bezaha Seminary from September 1996 to June 1999.
I was asked to pursue doctoral studies and, for preparation, I was sent to do English studies in Denver Colorado July 1999 – July 2000 and joined the Lutheran organisation of Urban Servant Corps, where I served as a fulltime volunteer at Metro-CareRing, an NGO distributing all basic needs for people who don’t have enough, and served as an assistant pastor at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church on weekends.
August 2000, I moved to Gettysburg Seminary (LTSG) in Pennsylvania (joined by my family) to start biblical languages studies, till May 2001. From June -August 2001, I served as a full time Chaplain at Lutheran Youth Summer Camp in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania.
September 2001, we moved to Chicago, undertaking Master’s program in Old Testament at Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LSTC), completed in May 2003. September 2003 to June 2004, I did an unaudited PHD Leadership Program. February 2005, started my program of research and writing for my PhD dissertation in contextual theology at UKZN Pietermaritzburg campus, completed in August 2010. September 2010 to February 2013: lecturing in Bezaha Seminary in Madagascar. March 2013 – December 2017: serving the Korsten Parish in Port Elizabeth. January 2018 – December 2020: serving the Cape Town North Parish. January 2021 to present, serving the Grassy Park Parish.
